In the National Curriculum of England covers the first two years of primary education, specifically for children aged 5 to 7 (Year 1 and Year 2)
Key Features:
- Subjects Covered: The curriculum includes English, mathematics, science, art and design, computing, design and technology, geography, history, music, and physical education
- Assessments: At the end of Key Stage 1, students undergo formal assessments, including national tests in English reading and mathematics, as well as teacher assessments in mathematics, science, English reading, and writing
- Phonics Screening: In Year 1, students take a phonics screening check to assess their reading skills

In the National Curriculum of England covers the four years of primary education for children aged 7 to 11 (Year 3 to Year 6)
Key Features:
- Subjects Covered: The curriculum includes English, mathematics, science, art and design, computing, design and technology, geography, history, music, physical education, and languages
- Assessments: At the end of Key Stage 2, students take national tests in English reading, English grammar, punctuation and spelling, and mathematics. Teacher assessments are also conducted in English writing and science
- Multiplication Tables Check: In Year 4, students take a multiplication tables check to assess their knowledge of times tables
The aim of Key Stage 2 is to build on the foundations laid in Key Stage 1, developing students’ knowledge and skills across a broad range of subjects and preparing them for secondary education.
